Sometimes I hate the stereotypes of deaf people. People just look at me and whisper things about me rather than saying things to my face. There is nothing wrong with me. I can talk normally and I can hear normally.
Yes, I have 2 cochlear implants but that doesn’t make me dumb. I passed all my gcses like any other normal person, I go to a normal college, I enjoy music. I am just a normal teenager.
One thing that I can’t stand is people talking to me in a patronising manner, they don’t need to. If I need extra help I will ask for it like any other person.
It’s amazing how many people are shocked when they realise how well I can cope. Or if I wear my hair in such a way that you can’t tell I have hearing aids people are greatly surprised to find out that I am deaf.
I love proving all the stereotypes about deaf people wrong, but I shouldn’t have to.
Help change the stereotypes of deaf people.
